This list is by no means comprehensive, but covering these topics will allow us to ace almost all programming type questions in the exams.

Rather than doing tutorials, we should explore these topics through class investigations of certain problems in computer science, such as the

I've attached my copy of CLSR.

The relevant sections for this part of our course would be chapter 1, The Role of Algorithms in Computing (p. 5 - 8), and chapter 2, Getting Started (p. 16 - 23). The questions at the end here are particularly good.

These provide a broad overview of a major field in computer science (the design and analysis of algorithms) which ends up covering a considerable portion of the syllabus concerning problem solving, and illustrates a very simple algorithm which we can analyze and code up ourselves.

I really think applying our knowledge of programming and integrating several syllabus concepts together into projects like this will make the course more instructive (and more enjoyable) for everyone :)

Much of this is the same as the criteria for the planning section:

Criterion A: Planning

The scenario must consider the following key questions:

• Who is the client/adviser?

• Is the choice of client/adviser appropriate?

• Why is the product being developed?

Rationale for proposed solution

The rationale behind the choice of the proposed product must be in extended writing, with reference to the student’s consultations with the client and/or adviser, justifying how the choice of this particular product is an effective solution.

Before reaching a decision for the proposed product the student and/or computer science teacher must determine:

• if the student has the technical skills and access to the software required to develop the product

• whether the client’s hardware and software is compatible with the product

• if the data required for the product can be obtained by either the student and/or appropriate third parties

• how any security implications for the development and operation of the product can be resolved.

Success criteria

The success criteria (that are evaluated in criterion E) should be listed in the form of bullet points.

If the student is the client, they must have an adviser who can review the success criteria and provide the validation of the product.
From April 15th-May 31st there will be an expectation that students complete Sections A, B.
